Awkwafina
American actor and musician Awkwafina debuted with sly rap tracks that tackled sexuality and racial identities with a an incisive and humorous perspective, before expanding her reach into Hollywood. Nora Lum, born in Forest Hills Queens to Chinese and Korean immigrants was her first musical encounter. She played the trumpet. Then, she started the classical and hip-hop genres. While at school, she studied journalism as well as women's studies at college, even studying Mandarin in Beijing for a time. It wasn't until after graduating that she turned her attention towards music. The year 2012 saw My Vag (as a retort to Mickey Avalon's My Dick) became an online hit, and it was featured in her debut LP Yellow Ranger. The album also featured popular hits, including the body positive Queef as well as the cheeky hometown tour NYC Bitche$1. This track was directly linked with another Awkwafina project NYC A travel guide that was released in 2015. In addition to having a book published as well, she also worked as a singer. Apart from early series like Girl Code and Tawk she was also featured in movies like Neighbors 2 Storks and Bad Rap. In 2018, she landed several notable roles including Dude Ocean 8 and Crazy Rich Asians. It was in June that she released her first film In Fina We Trust.
