Despacito is a 2017 song made by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi. It was the most streamed and downloaded song across the globe within 6 months. The song was a mix of reggaeton and pop which not only brought attention to Latin music but as well reggaeton. Billboard's Top 100 had four songs mostly in Spanish by 2016 compared to just two songs in 2015. Despacito's popularity Despacito peaked in 2017. In 2020, 41 mostly Spanish songs are expected to make it into the Top 100. Justin Bieber re-mixed Despacito with an English version in the year 2017 and soon after famous artists started working with reggaeton acts. Drake teamed with Bad Bunny to create MIA (2018), while Madonna was a part of Medellin along with Maluma (2019). In 2020, several Reggaeton performers were expressing displeasure about the advancing of the genre toward the mainstream. But a newer generation such as Rauw Alejandro was keen to keep the trend going. The genre often included elements of electronic dance music as well as other genres.
